Matt
Hello, my name is Matt Ayres, and I am a driving instructor based in and serving the York area. I have over 13 years experience in teaching new drivers how to become confident and safe road users. The UK roads are becoming increasingly heavier with traffic and as such equipping new drivers with the skills to become a safe member of the driving community is paramount.
MY PROMISE
I promise to work with every student and focus on their individual needs, strengths and weaknesses. The emphasis will be on imparting the skills and knowledge not only to pass the UK driving test, but to equip each driver with the skills, knowledge and confidence to ensure they are a safe and responsible driver for now and into the future.

Can I have one hour lessons?
I don’t normally recommend such short lessons as they are not as effective. However, shorter lessons can be discussed with me and I will accommodate requests where appropriate.
Do you offer refresher lessons?
Yes, if you already have a full driving licence but feel you need a refresher in a certain aspect, I would be happy to help.
How many hours of lessons will I need to be at test standard?
This is very specific to the individual as everybody’s circumstances and learning speed is different. I can, however, provide an estimate after a few lessons have been completed.
Can I use the instructor’s car for my practical driving test?
Yes, providing I agree that you are ready for the test and use of the car has been agreed with me well in advance of the test date.
Why learn in an automatic car?
With the surge in demand for electric vehicles and impending legislation which will prohibit the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, drivers will need to be skilled in vehicles where manual gear change will no longer be a requirement. Additionally by removing the complication of manual gears, drivers can focus exclusively on dealing with traffic situations and other aspects of driving more effectively.
